Blackburn want over £30m for Brereton Diaz, Leeds United in pursuit of January deal
Leeds United have been told it will take over £30million for them to sign Ben Brereton Diaz from Blackburn, according to TeamTalk.
The football news website reports that Brighton, West Ham, Wolves and Burnley are also interested in signing the 22-year-old striker, who’s been in sensational form in the Championship this season.
It is understood that Blackburn have slapped a huge price tag on Brereton Diaz’s head because they know that losing him could derail their bid to win promotion to the Premier League.
However, TeamTalk reports that the Lancashire club ultimately knows that every player has a price.
Leeds are probably unable to sign a new player for £30million this month and the main issue in Marcelo Bielsa’s squad is the lack of quality options in the centre of the midfield.
If we go out and sign Brereton Diaz for £30million – or anything near that – then it’s likely that there won’t be any money left in the bank to sign a midfielder or two.
Patrick Bamford is close to returning from injury and once he’s fully fit, he’ll be starting every single game in the Premier League.
Brereton Diaz would be one very expensive benchwarmer if he arrived this month because we all know what Bielsa is like with choosing Bamford to start up front.
If Bamford gets injured again, Joe Gelhardt has earned his stripes and Rodrigo should be back from his injury before too long as well.
Brereton Diaz is a class striker. He’s been superb this season, scoring 20 goals in 25 Championship appearances for billionaire-owned Blackburn.
BBC Sport described the Chilean’s goalscoring form as “sensational” on 24 December so we can see why Blackburn want so much for the striker.
But let’s face it, it’s just not going to happen and for that much, it shouldn’t happen either.
