Dharmesh Sheth: Leeds United want central midfielder despite Angus Kinnear concerns
Leeds United want to sign a midfielder this month despite concerns from the board, according to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth.
Speaking on Sky Sports News, Sheth has reported that chief executive Angus Kinnear is worried that acquiring new players in the January transfer window will prove difficult for the Whites.
Despite this, it is understood that Leeds want to push on with adding to their options in the midfield.
“Leeds United, they want to strengthen in midfield but the chief executive, Angus Kinnear, admits it’s a big challenge to recruit in this month,” said Sheth, as shown in a clip on Sky Sports’ Transfer Cente [4 January, 11:02am].
Splash the cash
Leeds should have some money to spend this month after the 49ers invested more cash in the club to increase their shareholding.
Andrea Radrizzani and the 49ers have funded big-money deals in the last few transfer windows with Rodrigo and Daniel James both becoming record signings at Elland Road in consecutive summers.
Leeds need signings this month, it’s that simple.
If Marcelo Bielsa is left to see out the season with a skeleton of a squad made up of Under-23s players then we’re going to get dragged right into the Premier League’s relegation battle.
He needs reinforcements and he especially needs them in the middle of the park.
While Adam Forshaw is doing brilliantly, Kalvin Phillips’ injury, Stuart Dallas’ need to fill in at full-back and Mateusz Klich’s poor form means that midfielders have to come through the door – whether Kinnear thinks it’s going to be difficult or not.
We may have to overpay on a player or two but beggars cannot be choosers in the January transfer window and shortcomings in the summer have left us in this state.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign this “quality” left-back from a league-leading club.
