Marcelo Bielsa has hinted that Ezgjan Alioski will stay at Leeds United despite speculation linking him with a move to Turkey.

Earlier this week, Turkish news outlet Fotospor reported that Alioski, 28, had agreed a deal in principle with Galatasaray ahead of his contract at Elland Road expiring in the summer.

After that report emerged, the Yorkshire Evening Post rubbished it, saying “there is so far little substance” behind it.

Speaking ahead of Leeds’ meeting with Leicester in the Premier League on Sunday, Bielsa offered an update on Alioski’s situation and it sounds as though the Argentine is happy for the left-back to stay past the end of this season if he wants to.

BBC Radio Leeds journalist Adam Pope quoted Bielsa as saying: “I’m only one opinion in the equation as to whether he stays. First and foremost is that the player chooses the club. I think if Alioski chooses Leeds then Leeds will choose Alioski.”

Gjanni to stay

Alioski is by no means one of the most gifted players in the Leeds squad and nor is he one of the most important. However, that’s not to say he doesn’t play a key role in Bielsa’s plans at Elland Road.

Alioski has made 19 appearances in all competitions this season playing mainly as a left-back.

He’s even chipped in with two goals for the Whites against Newcastle and West Brom to boost the Yorkshire club’s chances of survival in their first season back in the Premier League.

Leeds United

Alioski has been criticised at times but at the end of the day, he’s someone who always gives his all and has what seems like an endless supply of energy in every match he plays.

In a nutshell, he’s an ideal Bielsa player thanks to his versatility and his superb levels of fitness and commitment.

Bielsa sounds as though he wants the North Macedonia international to stay and we do too.

He’s a popular player among the squad and among the fans and every now and then, he’s capable of putting in a superb performance down the left-flank.

In other Leeds United news, there’s also been a big update on Bielsa’s own personal future at Leeds.
