Leeds United are quietly relaxed about Marcelo Bielsa’s contract situation at Elland Road with the manager’s deal due to expire in the summer, according to Mirror journalist David Anderson.
The reporter has written on the Mirror website that Bielsa, 65, will wait until the end of the season before holding any discussions about extending his stay in West Yorkshire for another year.
Since being hired by the Whites, Bielsa has only committed to managing the club on a year-by-year basis.
It is understood Leeds are eager for him to stay and that owner Andrea Radrizzani will back him in the summer transfer window after a £50million injection from the 49ers.
Consistency is key
Not only does Bielsa like naming the same starting line-up every week but he also has the same approach to transfer windows and his own future.
We’ve seen Leeds linked with a number of players this month but to the surprise of absolutely no one who follows the Whites, Bielsa hasn’t signed anyone because he really hates doing so in January.
He also is very calm about his future and contract situation at Leeds.
He never fully commits to more than a year in charge at a time and even though it took an age to get a deal confirmed after last season ended, it was never really in any doubt.
Bielsa will take the same approach again this year.
Victor Orta will probably be welcoming new signings and selling on or loaning out current Leeds players but Bielsa’s contract situation won’t be sorted until late on.
It won’t be an issue in our eyes and neither will it for Orta, Radrizzani or Angus Kinnear.
It seems that Leeds fans will have a lot to look forward to going into the summer if they avoid relegation.
Based on results in the Premier League, they will stay up and if they do, there’s no reason why Bielsa cannot building upon what he’s already created in West Yorkshire.
He’s bought into this project massively and we expect him to remain for the foreseeable future.
