Ben Davies transfer: Leeds United late twist emerges as Tottenham stance shared

Tottenham are unlikely to sanction a late exit for defender Ben Davies despite interest from Leeds United, according to TEAMtalk.

The online source reports [31 January] that Spurs do not want to sanction a winter transfer for the experienced Welshman despite Daniel Farke’s side pushing strongly for his signature [TEAMtalk].

It is understood that, while Davies has numerous international teammates currently at Elland Road, the player is content with a squad role at Hotspur Way between now and the end of the campaign.

Leeds United to miss out on late Ben Davies transfer?

The signing of Davies would actually make a lot of sense, even if he is 31 years of age, having had a run of games under Ange Postecoglou due to an ongoing injury crisis in North London.

He was, of course, part of that injury crisis, joining Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven in the treatment room, but he has come back into the side and not looked out of place since.

If Farke wants to avoid slipping into the play-offs this season, it would be a sensible idea for a new centre-back to be signed, with Pascal Struijk’s injury history becoming a little patchy.

His absence from the squad means Ethan Ampadu dropping into the middle of defence alongside Joe Rodon, with Leeds then missing a crucial presence in the middle of the park.

However, it does not seem that Davies will be the player to help solve those issues at Elland Road, though a new defensive signing could still be key before the transfer window slams shut.

Max Wober can clearly not be trusted to remain fit, so if Farke is to be dealt a difficult set of injury cards in the second half of the campaign, there could be a tricky path ahead without reinforcement before 3 February.
