Leeds United have named a young side to face Accrington Stanley in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday evening.

Mark Jackson has travelled with his under-21 side for their first competitive game since earning category one academy status at Thorp Arch.

The only new signing to make the cut from the academy was Charlie Allen, who joins more experienced players such as Cooper Skerry and Josh Galloway.

BBC journalist Adam Pope shared the official teamsheet on his personal Twitter account before the clash, and there was an interesting observation.

Despite it being his competitive debut for the club, the highly-rated 16-year-old, Allen has been handed the captain's armband by Jackson.

Accrington Stanley are clearly taking the competition seriously though, with the home side naming a strong squad as the League One side welcome our youngsters.

Allen arrived from Linfield in the summer with such high praise from former Whites forward David Healy - his old manager.

Healy claimed that the 16-year-old is very good and is always open to learning, and where better to do that than with Marcelo Bielsa and the Whites.

Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham were all interested in the forward before his move to Leeds, and tonight is the first time we will get to see the youngster.

This is a teenager who has featured in the squad of a Champions League qualifier for Linfield, so captaining the under-18s against Accrington should come easily.
