Leeds United are set to intensify their interest in signing Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher on loan, according to the Daily Mail.
The 20-year-old was set to join Crystal Palace before their last-minute decision to target Michy Batshuayi instead from Stamford Bridge.
Premier League rulings mean that one club can’t loan two players from the same side, meaning Gallagher is free to look elsewhere.
Chelsea are open to letting Gallagher leave on loan next season, but Frank Lampard would want him to sign a new contract first.
According to the report, Leeds were one of the first to stake their claim for Gallagher earlier in the summer but the Baggies are known admirers of the playmaker.
Not only are they admirers, but West Brom have also opened talks with Chelsea over the addition of the midfielder which could put them ahead of Leeds in negotiations [Jacob Steinberg].
The 20-year-old was relatively unknown before his breakthrough year in the Championship last season at Charlton and Swansea.
In the first half of the season, Gallagher made 26 appearances and was involved in eight goals for a struggling Addicks side.
He didn’t score at Swansea after his move in January, but he did deliver six assists and helped guide them to the Championship play-offs.
Marcelo Bielsa will be looking to add strength in depth to his midfield at Elland Road, and with questions over the fitness of Pablo Hernandez and Tyler Roberts – this could be a smart addition.
With West Brom already opening talks, Leeds and Victor Orta will need to act quickly in order to win the race for Gallagher.
