Atletico Madrid want Leeds ace to replace Diego Costa in January – report

Leeds United striker Rodrigo is being eyed as a potential replacement for Diego Costa by Atletico Madrid, according to TuttoNapoli

Costa had his contract at Atleti terminated earlier this week at the request of the player after falling out of favour at the club.

Rojiblancos are now looking for a replacement striker with TuttoNapoli claiming that the Spanish side want a forward who knows the Spanish league.

This has reportedly led to Rodrigo being placed on a shortlist of players who Atletico may target in the upcoming January window.

Of course, Rodrigo only joined Leeds this summer so it is extremely unlikely that the Whites would part with their star signing after only a few months.

The 29-year-old does have extensive knowledge of La Liga after spending six years at Valencia before his move to Elland Road.

Rodrigo’s form has been slightly hit and miss since he joined Leeds, after giving away a late penalty on his debut he started to show promising signs playing just off Patrick Bamford.

The Spaniard looked like a Premier League veteran in Tuesday’s 5-0 win over West Brom as he was a constant threat all evening.

He also scored his side’s fourth goal as he really looks to be settling into the English top-flight after a tricky start.

This makes it even more unlikely that either Leeds or Rodrigo would be open to a potential move away.

If he was struggling for game time and unable to score then a quick switch would make sense but after Tuesday’s win, it looks as though the 29-year-old could be a key player for Marcelo Bielsa.

The January transfer window is sure to throw up more bizarre reports about players leaving but many Leeds fans will be hoping that the first team will still be intact in February.
