Aston Villa hijack advanced Leeds United talks to sign Ismaila Sarr as verbal agreement reached
Aston Villa look set to beat Leeds United in the race to sign Watford forward Ismaila Sarr this summer, according to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna.
However, Sarr is now looking more likely to head to Villa Park with Aouna reporting on 20 August that the Villans have a “verbal agreement with Watford” and adds that Leeds need to sell before they can buy.
The Foot Mercato journalist adds that Villa have agreed to pay £23.7million for the Watford attacker plus a 15 per cent sell-on clause.
We would have liked for Leeds to sign Sarr.
However, it seems like Aston Villa are going to win the race for his signature because we doubt that Jesse Marsch will sell any more of his star players this summer.
He’s already lost Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips and he won’t want anyone else to go.
Sarr is a right-sided winger who can also play up front so we don’t really see anyone who could realistically leave to make room for the Senegalese ace.
Daniel James only signed for us last year, Jack Harrison is in terrific form and obviously Luis Sinisterra isn’t going to be going anywhere.
It would be nice for Leeds to sign Sarr but he just isn’t what we need.
We need an out-and-out striker who can compete with Patrick Bamford for a spot up front and we also need a left-back.
Sarr is a talented player but he is neither of them.
