Are Leeds United the unnamed club trying to hijack Southampton swoop for Romain Perraud?

Leeds United need to find themselves a new left-back in the summer transfer window whether Ezgjan Alioski stays or goes.

Alioski’s contract at Elland Road expires at the end of this month and while he’s been strongly linked with a move away from West Yorkshire, it also wouldn’t hurt to sign an upgrade in the left-back position even if he pens a new deal.

According to Sky Sports, Leeds will pursue a new left-back and speculation has linked the Whites with a swoop for Brest’s Romain Perraud.

Express journalist Ryan Taylor reported earlier this week that Leeds are interested in signing Perraud but Southampton are more likely to sign the 23-year-old Frenchman.

It’s understood the Saints are in advanced talks over a deal for the left-back and a fee of £8.5million has almost been agreed.

However, a new twist emerged on Wednesday with RMC Sport journalist Loic Tanzi reporting from France that an unnamed club is trying to hijack Southampton’s swoop for Perraud.

Tanzi wrote on Twitter: “Another team, whose name has not been filtered, is also in discussions with Brest for a transfer of more than €10million [£8.6million].”

It seems that whoever is now trying to sign Perraud is attempting to outbid Southampton to land the left-back’s services.

Is it Leeds?

Victor Orta is bound to have plenty of money to spend this summer after funds were held back in January and Andrea Radrizanni secured fresh investment from the 49ers.

It wouldn’t shock us to find out if it is the Whites who are now making a huge effort to land Perraud in a bid to strengthen their options at left-back.

We’ll see how this unfolds but Perraud is certainly someone we’d welcome with open arms to Yorkshire.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have agreed a £13million deal plus bonuses to sign a new player on July 1.
