Archie Gray stance emerges as Tottenham and Brentford battle for £40m Leeds United deal
Archie Gray is yet to make a final decision on his destination when he leaves Leeds United this summer, according to Sky Sports News.
Writing on his personal X account (30 June), reporter Lyall Thomas reports that Brentford are still interested in a deal after giving the player a medical before a £40m bid was rejected after failing to agree payment terms.
Spurs have since swooped and are looking “increasingly likely” to land the 18-year-old on Sunday (David Anderson, 30 June), but the player hasn’t made a final decision as of yet as Ange Postecoglou’s side push to make a deal happen.
Archie Gray in no rush to leave Leeds United
Ever since the young superstar burst onto the scene, Gray has made it clear that he absolutely loves being at Elland Road.
But football has become far more of a business than it ever used to be and the 49ers have seemingly made it clear that the offer on the table is too good to refuse, and with the club needing to sell to avoid a PSR breach the decision is now Gray’s on where he wants to go.
Spurs can obviously offer big wages and European football, but there is no guarantee of first-team football with Yves Bissouma, Pape Sarr, Rodrigo Bentancur ahead of him in midfield and Pedro Porro the first-choice right-back.
Brentford on the other hand agreed a package worth £75k p/w with Gray and can offer him more regular football, so it will be interesting to see his final decision.
The Bees can’t be ruled out of the race as it’s just one hurdle to jump currently to get a deal done, but it’s clear that Tottenham are the ones in pole position.
