Archie Gray sell-on clause update as Leeds United ready transfer announcement

Leeds United and Tottenham will not include a sell-on clause in Archie Gray’s summer move to North London, according to Graham Smyth.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist reported via X (1 July) that the Whites will not benefit from any potential sale Spurs make and there has been no discussion over a potential loan return to Elland Road.

Leeds are eager to get the teenager’s exit and the signing of Joe Rodon completed and announced on Monday (1 July) or Tuesday (2 July) at the latest as the summer transfer window kicks into gear in Yorkshire.

Has Archie Gray completed summer Leeds United exit ahead of Tottenham transfer?

It does seem strange that Leeds United have not pushed to secure a sell-on clause in this transfer as it seems more likely than not Gray’s stock will continue to rise if he impresses in the Premier League with Spurs.

The North London club have not been afraid to sell their biggest and brightest talents in the past when big offers have arrived. Both Gareth Bale and Harry Kane returned huge fees and if Gray reaches the heights expected of him, that sort of transfer may be possible.

Leeds would have surely been eager to include that sort of clause in his move this summer, but with this sale aiding their financial position, they may have had to accept slightly unfavourable terms just to get it over the line.

The positive side of this is the fact that it seems increasingly likely that Rodon will return to Elland Road this summer. The Welshman was excellent last season and the Whites’ chances of promotion will be boosted by his arrival.

Hopefully, Leeds will not live to regret not including a sell-on clause in this move. If Gray leaves Tottenham in a £100million move in a couple of years time, there will be plenty of frustration around the club.
