Ao Tanaka price emerges as Leeds United could ready brand new transfer
Leeds United could sign Fortuna Dusseldorf midfielder Ao Tanaka for as little as £2million before the deadline, according to Leeds Live.
The outlet reported on 31 July that the midfielder could be one of the cheaper options for Daniel Farke as he looks for his Glen Kamara replacement this summer.
The Whites are on the market looking for potential options to bolster their midfield ranks, with Archie Gray also leaving the club for Spurs.
Ao Tanaka would be a smart transfer from Leeds United
Tanaka is a name that many Leeds fans won’t have heard of which will no doubt make them ask the question of why the Whites want to bring him to the Championship.
However, looking at his statistics from the Bundesliga 2 last season, it’s clear to see why Farke potentially has the midfielder on his shortlist.
During 2023/24, the midfielder played 36 times for Dusseldorf across all competitions and managed to contribute to a total of 12 goals during that time.
He is also a full Japan international and at the time of writing has a total of 27 international appearances to his name.

Whilst Tanaka’s name might not excite fans, it would be a smart addition to the club, especially given the fact that they’ve already approached him [Sports Hochi, 29 May].
Dejan Ljubicic is another name that is being mentioned but after Leeds’ bid worth £3.4million was already rejected [Bild, 26 July], it’s unclear as to how much 1.FC Koln will want to allow the player to depart.
Nothing is yet set in stone in regards to Leeds’ chase for a Kamara replacement but thanks to the addition of Joe Rothwell, the club should be fine for at least the foreseeable future.
In other Leeds news, a Whites target has been training alone to force a transfer.
