Leeds United set to seal 'thrilling' signings after Joe Rothwell arrival

David Norris

MOT Leeds News is delighted to welcome David Norris as an expert pundit. Norris joined Leeds in the summer of 2012 after a stellar season at Portsmouth. After playing 30 times and scoring three goals in the Championship in 2012/13, injuries got the better of the former midfielder before he left in 2015. Norris also played for Plymouth, Ipswich and Blackpool and he's now signed up to MOT Leeds news to share his reaction to the latest news from Elland Road.

Former Leeds United midfielder David Norris admits fans may not be excited by the signing of Joe Rothwell but he expects more "thrilling" arrivals to come.

Rothwell was confirmed as a new loanee at Elland Road, signing from AFC Bournemouth until the end of the campaign.

Having been promoted on loan at Southampton last season and played previously in the Premier League, he brings more important knowhow to the squad, according to Norris.

"I don't think fans will initially be buzzing with it, so to speak, just because they will naturally want players who will get bums off seats, but he has pedigree and could be a good signing for them," the ex-Whites man exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

"It's good they're bringing players in as there have been so many players linked away from the club.

"Whilst there may be more thrilling ones to come, he knows the level and can be a decent signing."

Rothwell offers Leeds United vital midfield depth

With the departures of Archie Gray and now Glen Kamara from Elland Road, Leeds United felt it imperative to bring in central midfield depth and Rothwell fits the bill.

Despite rarely being a starter in Russell Martin's Southampton side, it cannot be underestimated what a player with pedigree can bring to a dressing room and the former Blackburn man will benefit from the experience.

Daniel Farke remains uncertain on which other members of his squad could yet leave the club as he attempts to gather a settled squad in pre-season, but further midfield recruitment will be on the agenda with Rothwell joining just Ilia Gruev and Ethan Ampadu as central options.

Oliver Skipp is a name that has returned to the forefront of Leeds' reported targets, having died down slightly after Joe Rodon became the Tottenham player involved in the Gray agreement.

Over a marathon season that the team have ahead of them, it would not be a surprise to see any number up to four central midfielders come through the door to bolster the squad.
