27-year-old wants to quit Leeds this month – confirmed
Laurens De Bock wants to quit Leeds United this month and secure a return to Belgium, it has been confirmed.
De Bock, 27, had been on a season-long loan at Sunderland but Black Cats boss Phil Parkinson has revealed that deal has been cut short and the left-back has made his way back to Elland Road.
According to Parkinson, De Bock not only wanted to leave the Stadium of Light but he also wants to quit Leeds so that he can go back to playing in Belgium.
“Laurens has gone back, he wanted to go back to Belgium,” said the Sunderland boss, as quoted by the Shields Gazette.
“Leeds had the option to call him back. It was more a personal thing, he wanted to go back home.”
It is no shock that De Bock wants to quit English football.
Since joining Leeds from Club Brugge in January 2018, the Belgian has really struggled to show his worth in both the Championship for his parent club and in League One with Sunderland.
He made just 10 first-team appearances during his loan spell at the Stadium of Light and that clearly means that he is never going to be good enough to play for Leeds.
Marcelo Bielsa has plenty of left-back options at his disposal and even if he did have an injury crisis in that area, the Argentine would more than likely promoted an Under-23s player than hand De Bock a chance.
It is best for all parties if the Belgian moves on this month and a return to his home nation is bound to be a positive outcome for him.
