These Leeds fans react to Bamford 'elite underlying stats' from StatsBomb

Leeds striker Patrick Bamford is going through a serious drought at the moment, with his last goal coming back in August.

He’s got the support of his manager Marcelo Bielsa, who has consistently started him above Arsenal loanee Eddie Nketiah, and is showing no sign of losing faith with him yet.

And he’s got the support of top stats site, StatsBomb, who posted what they called “Elite underlying stats” for Bamford for the 2019/20 season.

They showed his xG of 0.62 and a high number of big chances and touches in the box. The only thing Bamford isn’t doing at the moment is finishing.

You can’t really argue with stats but some Leeds fans are happy to talk round them. One said, “Fair enough, we just need a luckier striker then”, although other fans were quick to point out he’s working hard and that goals will come if he carries on.

How long will this support carry on for?

What we’ve noticed is that support among Leeds fans, which was strong after the 1-0 win against West Brom, has dwindled over the last four games.

For now though, the majority of the fans still have his back.

Here’s what some Leeds fans are saying about the StatsBomb defence of Bamford.
