Daniel Farke’s job has been saved by one Leeds star – and it’s not Calvert-Lewin

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been stealing all the headlines for his brilliant Leeds United performances.

Daniel Farke has beaten the odds to save his job at LS11 in recent weeks after guiding the Whites to impressive results in the Premier League.

Calvert-Lewin has been the main man for Leeds, with the striker now on six goals in five games.

Leeds still have work to do to stay up, but Farke has done himself a world of good by switching up his tactics.

However, as good as the Leeds boss and Calvert-Lewin have been, the Whites have one star who should also receive more praise.

Jaka Bijol has been a brick wall for Leeds

Jaka Bijol had a delayed breakthrough at Leeds after failing to find his way into Farke’s starting lineups in the early stages of the season.

Fast forward to December, and Bijol now appears to be one of the 49ers’ best signings made in the summer.

Jaka Bijol’s stats in his last four games for Leeds, according to Sofascore

Bijol scored the opening goal in Leeds 3-1 win over Chelsea, as he’s made a strong case alongside Calvert-Lewin for the Player of the Month award.

Of course, the striker will probably win it for his heroics, but Bijol’s contribution cannot be overlooked.

As highlighted by Sofascore, the centre-back wins 2.2 ground duels per game, with a success rate of 64 per cent.

The Slovenian also keeps things tidy at the back, and boasts a tremendous 96 per cent pass accuracy in his own half.

Bijol can lead Daniel Farke’s defence in bid for Premier League stability

It’s still going to be a hard task for Farke to keep the Whites up, but at the moment, the signs are looking good.

Leeds have long-term plans to establish themselves as a top Premier League club, and that mission starts with recruiting the right players.

Bijol’s performances have proved that he can play a key part for the Whites beyond this season.

The towering defender is still only 26-years-old and with his best days in front of him, Leeds may only see Bijol improve.
