Leeds United fans blown away by latest January transfer update on Ross Barkley

This is part of a regular series from our panel of Leeds United Super Fans. Each week, Super Fans from our Leeds Insider Facebook page will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around Elland Road…

Our Leeds United Super Fans are urging the club to sign Ross Barkley in January after a loan-to-buy swoop for the Chelsea midfielder was mooted.

According to TeamTalk, Leeds are keen on signing Barkley, 27, in the next transfer window and a temporary deal, with the view to a permanent one, is the Yorkshire club’s preferred option.

In January, Barkley will enter the final 18 months of his contract at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea are reportedly considering whether to get rid of the former Everton midfielder in the winter.

It is understood that Leeds and Everton are interested in the 33-times England international but Newcastle are leading the race for his signature at this stage.

Leeds tried to sign a central midfielder in the summer but fell short in their pursuits of Conor Gallagher and Lewis O’Brien.

Now, our panel of Super Fans are hoping Victor Orta can tie up a deal for Barkley in order to strengthen Marcelo Bielsa’s midfield options.

Here is what they had to say:

Would Barkley fit in at Elland Road? It’s very unlikely.

We simply don’t see the former Aston Villa loanee as someone who has the energy and reliability to be able to play regularly for Bielsa.

He needs to put in 110 per cent effort each time he takes to the pitch, as well as in every training session at Thorp Arch.

Based on Barkley’s history, we really doubt he could do that.

Barkley has talent but injuries and his attitude have held him back in his career and we wouldn’t be too happy if Orta splashed a heap of cash on signing him.

There are better options out there.

In other Leeds United news, this player was in tears after the draw against Leicester and has been allowed time off by Bielsa.
