Phil Hay: This is what I saw Augustin doing apart from rest of players at Thorp Arch
Jean-Kevin Augustin has quickly found out what it means to be a Leeds United player under Marcelo Bielsa.
Athletic journalist Phil Hay said that shortly after signing for Leeds, he saw the striker doing “laps and laps” on Bielsa’s running track, while the other players trained.
Bielsa is famed for his exacting training sessions and demand for conditioning and fitness from his players.
Hay said that Augustin seems in “excellent nick” but that he’s still got a way to go before he meets Bielsa’s exacting standards.
Talking on the latest episode of the Phil Hay Show, Hay said, “When I went up to Thorp Arch just after he’d signed he was already on the running track that Bielsa has had built doing laps and laps on it while the other players were training.
“So he’ll be well up with the regime before too long. He’ll probably have to meet higher standards of fitness and conditioning despite the fact that he looks in excellent nick anyway.

“I imagine he’ll be on the bench against Wigan but the idea of him starting or playing a big part if the game goes well is a bit fanciful.”
Bielsa said in his press conference yesterday that it would take both Augustin and Poveda a month to get completely up to speed.
Augustin himself said he was 100% fit but admitted it would take time to adapt to the Championship under Bielsa.
However, we’re expecting him to be on the bench for the game against Wigan on Saturday and we can’t wait to hear the Elland Road crowd erupt when they see him.
After turning down Man United to move to Elland Road, the fans have already installed him as a cult hero.
At Thursday’s press conference he said the passion from the Leeds fans at the Millwall game on Tuesday made him “want to die” for the club.
That’s the right thing to say at the start of your new Leeds career.
