‘Wow’, ‘How the hell?’ – These Leeds fans baffled by ‘unreal’ TOTY announcement
Whoscored.com have announced their Championship team of the season, and it’s fair to say that Leeds United fans are more than a little baffled by it.
The Whites ended up romping their way to promotion after a seriously impressive run of form during the period of football after the restart, but despite the fact that they won the title, they had just one player in the XI.
Luke Ayling booked his spot in the side at right-back with a rating of 7.26, but none of his teammates were included in the lineup.
Similarly, fellow promoted side West Brom only had Matheus Pereira included in the side, while Fulham had three players in the XI.
And understandably, many Whites fans are asking how a team that won the division by 10 points can be so under-represented in a team of the season.
But perhaps the lack of Leeds talent is more a reflection on Marcelo Bielsa’s side’s virtues as a solid unit.
According to LUFC Data, the Whites were the best side in the division when it came to 21 key areas, ranging across variety of gameplay aspects.
In pretty much every respect, Leeds were the best team in the Championship, and the league table reflected that come the end of the season.
Not having more players represented in a team of the season isn’t really all that important in the grand scheme of things, and when backed up by more data that contextualises our achievement, it pales even further into insignificance.
