'Some player' - Kalvin Phillips heaps praise on rarely-seen leeds talent after run-in heroics

It was heartbreaking for many when the news broke that Leeds United would be without Kalvin Phillips for the final three fixtures of the season.

The Yorkshire Pirlo suffered a knee injury in the 1-0 win at Swansea and has worn a leg brace ever since while watching the Whites seal promotion to the Premier League.

Marcelo Bielsa usually favours Ben White as his replacement but gave the opportunity to Pascal Struijk against both Derby and Charlton.

The South American hasn’t been disappointed either, with the Dutch colossus excelling in the final two victories of the season.

But, how did Phillips think the youngster fared in his absence? The Leeds legend posted a picture of him with Struijk after the title was held aloft, and showered him with praise.

“Some player him,” he wrote.

Struijk didn’t enjoy the best of starts to his senior career earlier in the season, coming off the bench in the 3-3 draw against Cardiff at Elland Road.

The academy star was criticised for his role in that collapse, but that memory has quickly been forgotten about after his latest performances.

The 20-year-old was impressive against Charlton, but it was in the win at Derby where he really caught the eye against the likes of Wayne Rooney.

Struijk was everywhere, completing one tackle and four interceptions according to WhoScored. Not only was he solid in defence, but he also delivered one key pass and had two shots on goal.

It was a position change for the Dutch sensation, but he has certainly grasped that with both hands and we could be seeing more of that next season, most likely in the cup competitions.
