Wilfried Gnonto at risk of Leeds United axe v Plymouth Argyle after what Daniel Farke said
Wilfried Gnonto is surely set to be axed by Daniel Farke after the manager blamed a lack of efficiency from Leeds United for their draw against Bristol City.
The 20-year-old saw a golden chance cleared off the line by Zak Vyner at Ashton Gate on Saturday [26 October] as the forward spurned the only clear-cut opportunity to break the deadlock in the 0-0 draw.
Leeds had the chance to move top of the Championship – even if only temporarily – but wasted the chance to do so on a day of frustration.
The Whites may line up at Elland Road next weekend without Gnonto, as Daniel Farke rued the missed chances at Bristol City in his post-match interview.
As per Leeds Live [26 October], he said: “[It’s] easy to say we win that game with Junior [Firpo] and Largie [Ramazani].
“Would have preferred to have them, but we did have many players out there who could and should have scored. Sometimes we could be more efficient.”
Wilfried Gnonto to become the scapegoat for Leeds United
Gnonto has become the latest scapegoat at Leeds in recent weeks, as the forward continues his underwhelming form at Ashton Gate.
The Italian had the goal gaping and only needed to guide the ball into the Bristol City net to secure a vital three points for his side, but Vyner’s goal-line clearance ultimately sums up his luck in West Yorkshire.
Gnonto has played every minute for the Whites in the absence of Dan James and Manor Solomon, and the pair’s return to first-team action could provide the perfect opportunity to remove Gnonto from the limelight against Plymouth.
James is one of few of the Leeds starters who can return to Elland Road with his head held high. The 26-year-old was “outstanding” in his first start since overcoming his long-term injury woes.
Solomon on the other hand, is eager to make up for lost time with the Tottenham loanee admitting he is yet to show his best form for the Whites and could ease the goal-scoring burden on Gnonto’s shoulders.

Leeds have dropped two crucial points in the race for automatic promotion no doubt. However, the side has been running on fumes amidst an ongoing injury crisis and it is clear in Gnonto’s case that he is burning out from the heavy workload – especially when also considering his Italy Under-21s exertions.
Farke must protect the forward and rather than offering back-handed digs to the press, and focus on how he can get the best out of him with the challenge for a starting berth at Elland Road set to intensify.
