View: Jesse Marsch’s great initiative sparked Rodrigo’s Leeds United lift

Jesse Marsch deserves so much credit for the massive lift in performances shown by Leeds United forward Rodrigo since his arrival.

Coming in as the Whites’ record signing in 2020 left the Spaniard with very high expectations resting on his shoulders.

Whilst he has shown glimpses of the player Marcelo Bielsa thought he was signing from Valencia, everyone is still waiting for the 31-year-old to fully kick into gear at Elland Road.

Rodrigo has found it extremely difficult to acclimatise to the Leeds team given his lack of experience with their high pressing system but the Marsch might be able to get the best out of the attacker.

Leeds United reporter Beren Cross hailed the Spain international by tweeting: “Rodrigo was a record signing at his lowest ebb when he was hooked at half-time in the Villa disaster.

“Those clear-the-air talks with Marsch transformed him. Three goals in four and now the team’s talisman in this run of form.”

Rejuvenated

The American showed brilliant initiative by noticing Rodrigo had so much more to offer and acting on his lacklustre form as he looked to save Leeds from Premier League relegation.

After the Norwich City victory, the former RB Leipzig boss admitted: “He and I have gotten to know each other really well in the last few days and had some really good conversations and talked a lot about what my vision is for him, what my vision is for the team and how he can help and how he can continue to believe in this transformation.”

The talks with Rodrigo must have really helped with the out of form man going from zero to hero in a matter of weeks with the fans even paying him homage with a new song.

Not only has he scored three goals in his last four games, but his overall performances have also taken a huge upward spike helping the Whites out of the mess they were in.

You would suspect his best is still to come but it has been much better from Rodrigo.
