MOT View: Sky Sports pundit comments on reported Leeds hunt surely casts big shadow
There is no hiding from the fact that Leeds United need to go all out to sign another forward in the January market.
Marcelo Bielsa only has Patrick Bamford to choose from, and Southampton’s Che Adams has been singled out as one of the Whites’ main targets already.
Danny Mills has recently commented on Leeds’ apparent plans to replace Eddie Nketiah, claiming that they must go all out to sign someone like Southampton’s Che Adams.
“We need that bit of competition for Patrick Bamford, that plan B, that back-up for Bamford which Nketiah hasn’t really been this season,” the Sky Sports pundit told Football Insider.
“Maybe a proven goalscorer in the Championship, an out-and-out goalscorer like Adams may be what finally fires Leeds to the Holy Grail of the Premier League.”
Even those comments alone prove that Leeds will face an uphill battle to try and secure someone such as Adams, who would be expecting much more than to be a second option at Elland Road at the second half of the campaign.
Given that Nketiah returned because of a lack of minutes for the Whites, it appears unlikely that Adams would come to West Yorkshire to be a plan B.
Mills suggesting that will surely cast a shadow over the potential of Adams completing a loan switch, and Southampton would want nothing less than to allow their player to temporarily leave the club to not be the first choice.
