MOT View: Promotion race could be nearing conclusion with massive fortnight ahead for rivals
Leeds United went top of the Championship table on Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over rivals Huddersfield Town.
It was yet another perfect weekend for the Whites. Nottingham Forest were blown away by Millwall at home, as both Fulham and West Brom drew on the road on Saturday.
That put Marcelo Bielsa’s men one-point clear of the Baggies and more importantly increased the gap to the play-offs to seven.
Everyone has one eye on the upcoming crunch clash with Fulham a week on Wednesday, with three points in that one surely all but securing promotion to the Premier League (we say very loosely).
Interestingly, before Fulham travel to Elland Road, they actually entertain the dangerous Brentford at Craven Cottage on Friday evening.
Now many teams have collapsed against the pressure of the Bees, and Leeds are one of the only sides to properly dominate them this season. Thomas Frank made some strange comments about the Whites, but he could do them a massive favour this week.
Nate Silver, a prediction expert has claimed that Leeds now stand a 98% chance of securing promotion to the Premier League on his website, FiveThirtyEight.
Should Leeds pick up six points from their next two and Fulham lose at Elland Road and against Brentford, the promotion race could be all but concluded.
It’s a massive fortnight for Fulham, and the pressure is well and truly on the shoulders of Scott Parker’s side who realistically are the only side who could catch Leeds and West Brom.
Marcelo Bielsa will continue business as usual for the Whites, who will have one eye on proceedings at Craven Cottage.
