MOT View: Phil Hay transfer update makes little sense with Leeds star in form of his life
With the EFL confirming that games will eventually be finished, Leeds United have nine games to get through to try and secure promotion to the Premier Leauge.
Although Marcelo Bielsa has put together a squad capable of surviving, Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta will be busy looking for players to strengthen the Whites in the summer.
One of those players could be Manchester City’s Yan Couto, with Phil Hay revealing that Pep Guardiola is keen to loan the right-back to Elland Road should they earn promotion this season.
It is suggested that Leeds were interested in a permanent deal for the 17-year-old before the Premier League giants signed him for £13.6million.
Bringing in some younger players on loan deals could add much-needed strength in depth for the Premier League, but with Luke Ayling currently in the form of his life, it could be deemed an unnecessary move.
The 28-year-old scored against Bristol City, Hull, and Huddersfield Town and was the standout man before the coronavirus suspension in the EFL.
Ayling has really transformed the attacking side of his game this season, and he proved that against Huddersfield.
The right-back had two shots on goal as well as completing a couple of key passes according to WhoScored. Outside of that, he also made a couple of interceptions to keep the Terriers quiet.
Bringing in Couto might add great strength-in-depth, but with Ayling in amazing form, it is only right he is given the chance to cement his spot in the Premier League if we get there.
