MOT View: Phil Hay posts killer detail about permanent deal for White but it’s not all good news
Athletic journalist Phil Hay delivered both good news and bad news for Leeds United fans eager to sign Ben White on a permanent deal.
White is on a season-long loan with Leeds but they don’t have an option to make his deal permanent for next season.
He’s been so good for Leeds that this will surely be a priority for the club.
However, Hay delivered one killer detail that should stand Leeds in good stead.
He said, “He [White] has the final decision but only after Brighton decide which (if any) offers to accept.”
White’s time at Leeds has been a hugely positive one for the player and White has been progressing well under Marcelo Bielsa, who has trusted the defender with Kalvin Phillips’ key defensive midfielder position when he’s been out.
However, it wasn’t all good news for Leeds fans.
In a bigger article on the Athletic, Hay said that Leeds have actually got low expectations of landing the player on a permanent deal.
Hay claims that Brighton want to hold onto the player but are braced for offers from top-six Premier League sides, with Liverpool said to be particularly interested.
It doesn’t mean a deal is dead in the water. If Brighton do decide to sell and Leeds get promoted, then there’s every chance Victor Orta could match the player’s valuation.
But, for White, if Liverpool do come knocking, it would surely be hard to turn them down.
