'Outstanding signing' – Exclusive: Pundit tips Leeds to raid PL misfits for 'predatory' striker

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson thinks Leeds will look for players from teams coming down from the Premier League if they get promoted and has said Teemu Pukki would be an ‘outstanding signing’.

Norwich are rooted at the bottom of the Premier League and look set to be relegated if the 19/20 season is completed.

Pukki has scored 11 goals in the top flight and enjoyed a blistering start to the campaign, scoring six goals in his first five games, including a hat-trick against Newcastle.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “I think Leeds will look at the teams coming down from the Premier League if they get promoted.

“Teemu Pukki would be an outstanding signing for Leeds. His predatory instincts around the box, his work-rate is second to none, you see that at Norwich. He’s got 11 goals in a team that are looking like they’re going to get relegated from the Premier League.

“He’s developed as a player in the last two seasons. I just think the way Bielsa plays with that lone striker up front, he’d fit in perfectly, his work rate would work brilliantly with the way Bielsa plays and what he demands from his players.

“He’d bring that goal-scoring instinct which Leeds have lacked. They need that person in the box who can drag defenders around and finish and I think he’d be a really really good acquisition for Leeds in the Premier League.”

Patrick Bamford has been Bielsa’s preferred striker this season but there are questions over whether he will be good enough to lead the line in the Premier League.

Pukki is under contract at Norwich until 2022 and is 30 years old – he could well look for a move if Norwich are relegated, with his career entering the twilight years.

Norwich might need to cash in on some of their star players if relegated and would make a handsome profit on a player they got for free from Brondby in 2018.
