MOT View: ‘Fluid’ Leeds situation ahead of restart could be seen as risky strategy by Bielsa

Leeds United will resume their Championship campaign next weekend with a trip to Cardiff City but still haven’t booked in any warm-up matches.

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth has reported that the last he heard from Thorp Arch was that the situation is “fluid”, which means that Leeds can still play warm-up matches against other clubs are hold intra-squad friendlies.

Leeds’ title rivals West Brom have already played a warm-up match against Aston Villa, drawing 2-2 at Villa Park, and plan to travel to Old Trafford on Friday to play two hour-long friendly fixtures against Manchester United.

Playing against Premier League clubs is bound to help West Brom get prepared for the season restarting, especially as they have a couple of high-profile games against West Midlands rivals Birmingham and promotion rivals Fulham and Brentford.

Leeds have an easier run-in than the Baggies on paper but you would still think that Marcelo Bielsa will want to see his men in action against another club, just to get them that extra bit prepared to play against Cardiff next week.

We’re not saying that Bielsa is in the wrong here, we’re just saying that this could be seen as a risky move by the Argentine.

But, then again, Bielsa is famous for his unorthodox coaching techniques and at the end of the day, he has the Whites sitting top of the Championship table with nine matches to go.
