'Delighted' - Leeds youngster signs deal with agency managed by ex-Elland Road favourite

Up-and-coming Leeds United winger Morten Spencer has confirmed that he’s signed up to the YMU Football agency.

Spencer, 16, joined Leeds last year from Sunderland despite attracting attention from Manchester City as the Premier League heavyweights aimed to add more homegrown talent to their squad.

It was reported that Man City would have had to pay around £200,000 to sign Spencer from Sunderland and Leeds are likely to have paid that much themselves when they eventually snapped up the teenage attacker instead.

Spencer is eligible to play for both England and Norway and has represented both at youth level.

He’s now been snapped up by the YMU Football agency, meaning that former Elland Road favourite Ian Harte has become the youngster’s agent.

Writing on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday, Spencer confirmed the news.

“Absolutely delighted to have signed with YMU Football [and] Ian Harte. Time to kick on,” he said.

Harte, who made 268 appearances for Leeds in his career, responded to Spencer’s post, which featured an image of him alongside the youngster signing a contract.

Harte said: “Delighted to have you in the YMU Football family.”

It remains to be seen whether or not Spencer came break through into the senior squad in Leeds but he has not long turned 16 and it could be some time before he gets the chance to even step up to the Under-23s.

Hopefully Harte will have a good influence on Spencer.

It’s great that an ex-Leeds player is his agent, which is not something a lot of young footballers can say.
