MOT View: Bielsa comments could suggest Leeds change v Fulham

After throwing away a three-goal lead against Cardiff City on Saturday, the inquest began for Leeds United.

Fans jumped to make many claims on how it was allowed to happen at Elland Road, one being the substitutions that were made in the second half. Another was as simple as missing the experience of Liam Cooper.

It is easy to suggest that missing our captain was one of the main reasons we drew the game, but none of us were complaining when the score was 3-0, many probably didn’t give one thought to the injured Cooper.

Marcelo Bielsa was very complimentary of his absent captain after the draw against Cardiff City and admitted that Leeds missed him in defence.

“I know the resources of Liam,” he said via Leeds Live.

“Always when you don’t like the result, the player we miss is the player who is out of the team. Cooper has a good first pass, but we will use the ball in our pitch to avoid suffering any problem.”

The Argentine did go on to claim that it is hard to suggest that Leeds drew the game solely because the Scottish international was not in the side though.

“I value Liam, but I cannot say we draw the match because he wasn’t on the pitch. Of course, it’s easy to say because everybody will understand one experienced player could avoid this situation, but I don’t think that.”

Cooper was close to a return for the Cardiff clash after also missing games against Huddersfield Town and Hull City.

On that basis, the Scotsman should be back available for the trip to Fulham on Saturday, and based on Bielsa’s compliments for the defender, we can all guess that he should be back in the side for the game at Craven Cottage.
