MOT View: BBC pundit surely dreaming with comments on January targets for Leeds

Noel Whelan has suggested that Leeds United should bring in not one, but two strikers in the January market.

The former Whites forward has claimed that even if Victor Orta brings in a replacement for Eddie Nketiah, Marcelo Bielsa will still be light on options in the final third.

Whelan suggested that Leeds need a striker with great experience in the second tier to help Patrick Bamford and aid the push for promotion in the second half of the season.

“We need to put these games to bed, and we need a striker that knows the Championship, is proven in the Championship,” he told BBC West Yorkshire Sport Daily’s monthly special.

“I’d like to go into the window and maybe get two strikers because I still think we’re light with just an extra one coming in, although Nketiah’s gone.

“I’d like to see Che Adams.”

Phil Hay did report that the Saints forward is Leeds’ number one target this month, so Whelan could get his wish granted in the next three weeks.

But, he is surely dreaming to suggest the Whites could sign two forwards…

It was revealed by the Yorkshire Evening Post that the club are also considering Billy Sharp and an unnamed European forward – two options that are most likely back-ups should we miss out on Adams.

Nketiah was recalled by Arsenal over a lack of minutes this season, so to suggest that Leeds could bring in a third option would make no sense whatsoever for the Whites.

Some strikers may have concerns over even being second choice, so Whelan is dreaming that the club could bring in two fresh forwards.
