Mateo Joseph has made Leeds exit intentions clear after what he’s just said away from Elland Road

Mateo Joseph may have just made his intentions to leave Leeds United clear next summer.

The future of the young forward caused plenty of problems for Daniel Farke and Co. during pre-season, when he chose to skip their pre-season tour to Germany to try and force through a move.

Leeds ultimately loaned Joseph out to Mallorca, and he has quickly become a popular figure at the La Liga outfit in the early stages of his season-long spell.

The 22-year-old is currently in line to return to Elland Road next summer, but he appears to have just laid his cards on the table in terms of his long-term future, as a result of his latest comments.

Mateo Joseph praises ‘exceptional’ Mallorca

Leeds opted against including a purchase option in Joseph’s loan, which suggests that they potentially still see a route back for him in LS11.

Many people feel the Spain U21 international has burned his bridges at his parent club, but that could easily change in the coming months, especially if Farke were to be relieved of his duties.

However, the player’s own stance on his long-term future has surely just been revealed in the latest series of comments that he has made while away from the Premier League.

Joseph has heaped praise on Mallorca, and while he also indicated that the possibility of a permanent move is not up to him to decide, it is clear that he has made a veiled attempt to get his message across.

“In the end, Mallorca did an exceptional job, both the sports director and manager,” the Leeds loanee said in an interview for the print edition of Marca.

“They conveyed the confidence that they had in me, and that convinced me from the first moment. They knew me a lot and had a lot of faith in me, and I want to repay that trust.”

When asked if he would like to stay at Mallorca, Joseph responded: “Yes, I am very happy here. But you never know, I would tell you that it doesn’t depend much on me right now either, but we’ll see.”

Real Betis to provide another easy sale option for Leeds next summer

Real Betis were heavily linked with Joseph in the summer, and they represent another major opportunity for the Whites to move the starlet on at the end of the campaign.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side were left frustrated that they couldn’t seal a deal last time, as they had seemingly been in pole position for virtually the entire transfer window.

As a result, they would surely jump at the chance to get their man at the second attempt this time around.

Mallorca also seem keen, meaning that the only thing potentially standing in the way of a move would be Leeds’ valuation.

However, it is surely in their interests to sell now that Joseph’s intentions are out in the open, so there is little point in them trying to price the interested parties out of a move.

It is a shame that Joseph’s future at Leeds has reached this stage, but they surely have an easy route to a sale when the summer rolls around.
