Mateo Joseph's future caused plenty of issues for Leeds United over the summer.

The Spain U21 international was continuously linked with a move away from Elland Road, with both permanent and loan options suggested at different stages of the transfer window.

Joseph eventually left Leeds to join Mallorca on a season-long loan, with the Whites ultimately unable to offer the level of gametime that a young player of his ability needs in order to develop.

Daniel Farke gave the 22-year-old limited opportunities from the start last season, and he now surely faces a simple decision regarding how to handle his future after recent events at Mallorca.

Mallorca to provide Leeds with easy Mateo Joseph sale

Joseph pushed hard to secure a move away from Leeds in the summer, which has done his reputation with the supporters no favours whatsoever.

He is undoubtedly a promising young player, but he has never really translated that promise into goals, assists and moments of genuine quality during his time in West Yorkshire.

However, he has made a bright start in La Liga this season, with three goal contributions from his opening eight games.

  • Joseph started just 11 games in the Championship in 2024-25
  • He has only made three Premier League appearances throughout his career
  • He has now been nominated for the U23 Player of the Month award in La Liga for October

It has now been noted that Joseph's form and increasing importance to his loan club stands him as "one of the most beloved men" on the island of Mallorca, according to Cadena SER.

The youngster himself has also acknowledged that he lived with "a lot of pressure" while he was at Leeds, which certainly doesn't reflect well on the possibility of a return.

Given the way that Joseph is already being talked about at Mallorca, Leeds surely have a clear opportunity to sell him to them permanently at the end of the season.

It is highly likely that they would jump at the chance to keep him for a longer period, providing that also appeals to the hierarchy at Elland Road.

Mateo Joseph recall shouldn't even be considered

It has been suggested that Leeds could look at recalling Joseph from his loan spell early, after he was nominated for the U23 La Liga Player of the Month award for October.

However, that shouldn't even be under consideration as a potential option for Leeds.

Their concerns at the top of the pitch are far more serious than anything that could be solved by recalling a youngster to come into the team, not least one who has likely burned his bridges with his stance in the summer.

Joseph struggled to break into the Leeds team in the Championship, and that situation wouldn't be any different now they are in the Premier League.

They face a decision over his long-term future at the end of the season, but given where they want to be as a club, it would surely be a no-brainer for them to try and sell Joseph to Mallorca.
