Leeds United ‘to sanction Joseph exit to Birmingham’ after transfer update

Birmingham City have expressed an interest in signing Leeds United forward Mateo Joseph.

Leeds recently confirmed the addition of Lukas Nmecha. However, the Whites are yet to announce any other signings ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Several stars have been linked with a move to Elland Road, with plenty of movement expected in the coming weeks in terms of both incomings and outgoings.

Joseph is one of those who could leave the Whites this summer, and Daniel Farke should not be standing in the way of his exit.

Birmingham move makes sense for Leeds and Joseph

Ironically, the main position that Leeds will be looking to strengthen this summer will be their frontline, but it may also be an area of the pitch that they look to reduce the number of fringe players in.

Patrick Bamford’s future is uncertain, and the same could be said for Joseph, who rarely featured under Farke in the Championship.

Birmingham have shown an interest in the Spaniard [GiveMeSport], and if Leeds can get a good fee with a sell-on clause, it should be one that they accept with no hesitation.

Joseph simply won’t be up to standard in the top flight next season, and a chance to play regularly in the Championship will not only better his own career but also potentially increase his value.

As a result, this could allow Leeds to profit further at a later date.

Farke needs to be backed with a new number nine

At the risk of sounding a lot like Michael Owen, goals win games, and Leeds are going to need someone capable of scoring them next season if they are to have a chance at avoiding relegation.

Joël Piroe had an excellent season in the Championship. However, whether he can make the step up is also unknown, amplifying the need for a new number nine at Elland Road.

With a deal for Lecce’s Nikola Krstovic now looking unlikely, Leeds need to identify someone who can get them their goals as they look to break the trend of newly promoted teams heading straight back down.
