Leeds United to backtrack on Joel Piroe decision as exit looms in January

Joel Piroe could easily be the first player out of Leeds in January.

With Daniel Farke now seemingly safe at Leeds United, plans will be put into place ahead of the January transfer window.

Despite being at the one point per game average that is so often required to stay in the Premier League, the Whites desperately need reinforcements, as those around them will inevitably be looking to do the same.

However, January won’t all be about incomings, with a handful of exits also possible, and Piroe is one of them who could leave, despite what Beren Cross had to say in November.

Piroe will be growing frustrated at Leeds

Despite being the key to Leeds’ promotion from the Championship, Piroe has hardly had a look-in since their promotion back to the Premier League.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has started to find some form, with Lukas Nmecha also getting among the goals from time to time.

As a result, Piroe has played just 197 minutes of league football this season, and just 33 minutes since the middle of October.

Back in November, Cross claimed via The Athletic that Piroe was unlikely to leave Elland Road unless his exit would allow the arrival of a “difference-making alternative.”

However, the Dutchman will be frustrated at the lack of gametime he is getting, especially given how often the Whites have been in need of a goal.

That seems unlikely to change anytime soon, and if the chance emerges, there is every possibility that Piroe pushes for an exit.

Daniel Farke’s comments on Joel Piroe now make no sense

Earlier in the campaign, Daniel Farke labelled Piroe as a “world-class” finisher, and yet, he has opted against giving him the chance to showcase that in the Premier League.

He was handed three minutes against Liverpool, four minutes against Chelsea and just 10 minutes against Aston Villa in his last three appearances, leaving him with no time to impact a game.

On all but one of those occasions, Leeds have been chasing a goal, and yet Farke has refused to give the chance to the Dutchman who won the Championship golden boot last season.

It would be a surprise to see Piroe remain at Elland Road beyond January as a result.
