Leeds United players will be relieved to rest after Jesse Marsch grants time off

This has been a massively intense season for Leeds United with a huge number of games and injuries piling up here, there and everywhere.

Many of the Whites’ injuries seemed to be coming from muscle strains and general overworking of themselves from previous manager Marcelo Bielsa but things haven’t improved greatly under Jesse Marsch since.

Four players went off with injuries away at Wolves although two of those were impact knocks from tackles that can’t be blamed on the manager in reality.

But those who have played much more than they should have due to the sheer lack of numbers will have been delighted to hear that the new boss was giving them some much needed time off.

With the international break taking place this weekend, the American gave all of his players and staff a number of days off with them expected to return tomorrow to resume preparations for the Premier League run-in [Daily Mail].

This perhaps shows the modern thinking a football manager has to go through and why Bielsa was maybe past his best.

The Argentine was still regimented in his ways at Thorp Arch and worked his players extremely hard every single day but Marsch appears to have toned down that intensity.

This isn’t a bad thing as it should lead to fewer muscle injuries, in theory, and allow for the players to still have something left in the tank towards the end of the game.

We’ve already seen evidence of the latter coming to fruition with two stoppage-time winners in their past two games to lift the Whites away from relegation worries.

Hopefully, by the time the international break is done and dusted, Marsch has a number of his key players back fit as a result of this timely rest period and they can kick on to great things between now and May.

In other Leeds United news, Alan Shearer was flabbergasted at what one Leeds ace did in their victory v Wolves at the weekend.
