Leeds United must go all out to sign Blackburn striker Ben Brereton Diaz

Leeds United are reportedly interested in making a move to sign Blackburn striker Ben Brereton-Diaz, according to the Sun.

Jesse Marsch is eager to improve the squad of the Whites after a disappointing campaign in the previous season where they narrowly escaped relegation.

One of the reasons Leeds would like to strengthen is the attacking department where the side suffered in the last campaign where Patrick Bamford had fitness concerns.

The Chile international has been under the radar of many Premier League and Bundesliga clubs. However, the Whites are considering the option of buying him this summer.

It is reported that a move could cost only £13million but there are also plenty of Spanish clubs circling.

Diaz’s Role at Leeds

Leeds barely escaped relegation last season as they finished the season sitting 17th on the table with a goal difference of -37.

Even though a big reason for that negative goal difference was the lack of solidarity at the back, Marsch has suggested that Leeds must have a striker that is clinical and puts any of the few chances away when given, especially against the bigger teams.

The signing of Diaz would mean that Leeds continue to go with the football module that allow them to take it to the opposition.

Diaz is the kind of striker who works hard, with and without the ball. Even though his preference is to play down the middle, the 23-year-old can occupy either of the wings and help his fullbacks in closing down spaces.

In the recently concluded Championship season, the Blackburn striker scored 22 goals and made three assists across 37 appearances [Transfermarkt].

Rovers would be demanding much more than £13million if their contract situation wasn’t looking so poor, and there is a real bargain to be had this summer.
