Leeds United may have found long-term Patrick Bamford successor
Luca Thomas could be the long-term Patrick Bamford successor Leeds United have been looking for.
The youngster is currently out on loan with National League side York City and even managed to bag a goal on his debut for the club.
The attacker has been in fine form for Leeds’ youth set-up and Mark Hinshelwood’s men this season and he doesn’t look to be slowing down any time soon.
In fact, Hinshelwood even allowed the youngster to start York’s game against Halifax Town on Saturday (26 October) due to his recent form.
Thomas may well have been deployed in an unfamiliar role of right-wing but he was still one of York’s best players on the day.
Why Luca Thomas could be the answer Leeds United have been looking for
Before his loan move, Thomas was in stellar form for Leeds’ Under-21s side and managed to net six goals in just five games.
Despite Thomas being just 20 years old, it was clear that his skill level was miles above those around him which meant that continuing his development within the West Yorkshire outfit’s youth set-up wasn’t the best thing for the attacker.
Hence why a loan move to York was sanctioned. His natural role on the pitch is as a striker but throughout his career, Thomas has been deployed across the front three and has always put a shift in.
His keen eye for goal and vision for a pass are two key aspects of his game and each have helped contribute to making him the player he’s now becoming.

Thomas is still early into his loan deal of course but if his form continues going in an upward spiral, it doesn’t feel like there’s anything that could stop him from becoming Leeds’ long-term Bamford successor.
He may well not be good enough to make it into Daniel Farke’s first team just yet but in the future, it feels almost inevitable that he’ll be leading the Whites’ attack, even if Mateo Joseph is still at Elland Road.
