Leeds United make enquiry to sign Brazilian striker Matheus Martins

Leeds United have reportedly made an enquiry to sign Fluminense attacker Matheus Martins this summer.

According to Globo Esporte, the Whites, along with Ajax and Benfica have looked for information to sign the 18-year-old Brazilian striker who can also play as a winger.

Martins is one of the brightest young players, not just in Fluminense, but the entire Brazilian first division.

While he is still to establish himself as a regular in the senior side, he’s understood to be rated very highly by clubs in Europe.

The general feeling in the Brazilian media is that the teenager could be on his way this summer, despite the transfer interest being at the enquiry stage thus far.

Leeds have had issues in the final third this season and signing Martins could help address them.

We’re not suggesting that he would walk into the playing eleven, but he would bring that mystique and experience of being in a foreign league.

Brazilian players are extremely skilful and Martins fits the bill perfectly.

He could be the club’s third choice striker next season and under Jesse Marsch his game may reach the heights he wanted them to at the peak of his career.

Patrick Bamford’s injury record coupled with uncertainty over Raphinha’s future, makes it imperative for the Whites to sign an attacker this summer.

Signing the Brazilian will be a relatively cheap affair and the club could then look to bring in more quality players in other positions for bigger transfer fees.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are leading the race to complete a major signing and have already opened talks to seal a £25m deal.
