Leeds United: England debut close for Archie Gray after what Gareth Southgate said

Leeds United have been enjoying themselves this season, with youngster Archie Gray playing a key role in their success.

His versatility under Daniel Farke has been superb, with the 18-year-old impressing in both midfield and defence.

Gray may need to improve in some areas, but his talent at such a young age has been outstanding, with Leeds fans well aware of just how important he is to their club.

Remarkably, the teenager has already made 40 appearances in all competitions this season, with his performances drawing high praise.

England boss Gareth Southgate impressed by Leeds United ace Archie Gray

And one of the impressed parties is England manager Gareth Southgate, with the Three Lions boss referencing the Whites ace shortly after naming his latest squad for the upcoming international break.

“We obviously have contingency plans in every area of the pitch,” said Southgate, as quoted by Sky Sports. “Some of them would be with the U21s, there are some young players there doing exceptionally well – especially in midfield.

“The likes of Harvey Elliott, Kobbie Mainoo, Archie Gray is doing very well at Leeds, we had Rico Lewis with us last time.

“There are a number of players we could move in, that would obviously mess up what [Lee Carsley] is trying to do with his squad, but it’s obviously most important we have the depth with the seniors.”

Southgate is clearly a fan of Gray, with the latter potentially forcing his way into the latest England squad should the nation be impacted by injuries in the build-up to their friendly meetings with Brazil and Belgium.

With plenty of club football between now and them, England aces suffering injuries is certainly a possibility, meaning Gray may just be fast-tracked into the Three Lions set-up sooner than expected.

It is clear that the youngster has a future in the senior team, with an international debut undoubtedly arriving sooner rather than later.
