Leeds United: Daniel Farke must push for Trai Hume transfer as Archie Gray update emerges

Leeds United will already be looking ahead to the summer transfer window, especially with the number of rumours linking members of Daniel Farke’s team with moves away from Elland Road.

The Whites are hoping to pip their promotion rivals to a historic Championship title, with Leicester City and Ipswich Town battling amid a three-way race for the top spot.

With Leeds currently flying in the second tier of English football, and likely to be promoted at the end of the campaign, several clubs in Europe have turned their attentions to the stars at Elland Road.

Most notably, the biggest worry for Leeds fans will be the transfer rumours surrounding teenage sensation Archie Gray, despite having just signed a new contract with his boyhood club.

According to The Football League Paper (31 March, page 20), Gray is being linked to some of the biggest clubs on the planet, having already been compared to Manchester City’s John Stones.

Though many would argue that the 17-year-old’s rumoured exit from Leeds is unlikely, it would not hurt for the club to search for an alternative just in case, especially after Luke Ayling and Djed Spence left Elland Road earlier this season.

Could Leeds United sign Sunderland’s Trai Hume?

The club may have found a ready-made replacement for Gray if needed. Leeds have taken a liking to Sunderland ace Trai Hume, joining Aston Villa, Napoli, Bournemouth and Leicester City, who are all contemplating a summer move for the full-back. [Belfast Telegraph]

Capable of deputising anywhere across the backline, and even on the left of midfield, the 22-year-old’s versatility is an aspect of his game that should pique Farke’s interest ahead of the summer transfer window.

In the unlikely event of Gray leaving this summer, Hume would be the perfect replacement, one that would be key if Leeds can claim promotion back to the Premier League.

Having started all 39 of Sunderland’s Championship matches so far this season, the youngster has become a mainstay in the Black Cats lineup, which would suggest that Sunderland will not be letting go of him very easily.

But if the Whites are serious about keeping their spot in the top tier of English football, Hume is certainly a signing that should be considered after season’s end.
