Junior Firpo could make transfer U-turn after what he did for Leeds United v Harrogate Town

Leeds United have already been hit with multiple stinging transfer exits at Elland Road.

Archie Gray and Glen Kamara have both departed, leaving Daniel Farke needing reinforcements in midfield and at right-back.

Rasmus Kristensen has also left the club on another loan deal, though it looks likely Max Wober will be part of the squad this coming campaign (Beren Cross, 19 July).

The situation could be about to get much harder, with Junior Firpo said to be willing to take a pay cut to rejoin Real Betis this summer [ABC, 16 July].

Farke’s centre-back predicament is already quite stark, with Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk likely to be the only two options unless Leeds can bring in reinforcements, and losing another full-back – even accounting for the expected arrival of Jayden Bogle (John Percy) – would cause another headache.

Despite this, the Whites were able to keep a clean sheet during a routine 3-0 victory over Harrogate Town on Friday 19 July as the squad kicked off pre-season.

Junior Firpo to make transfer U-turn after Leeds United display

Firpo clearly has not allowed the circulating transfer rumours to affect his style of play or passion for the club, opening the scoring after 13 minutes.

The Dominican Republic international has experienced a mixed spell at Elland Road since arriving from Barcelona, though strong form in the second half of last term won over a big part of the fanbase and even earned him a new chant from the terraces.

Firpo’s impact was greatly felt last season as he registered seven Championship assists in 26 matches, though only 19 of those were starts due to ongoing injury problems at the beginning of the campaign.

With Leeds condemned to another season in the Championship, the 27-year-old could have an important role once again, but only if he is not to leave for Betis this summer.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites need to sell again to seal a deal for Sheffield United’s Jayden Bogle.
