Jesse Marsch to promote Mateo Joseph to Leeds United senior side with £1m-a-year deal ready for striker

With a new contract on the horizon for Leeds United youngster Mateo Joseph, Jesse Marsch will be planning to fast-track his path to the first team.

Joseph made his debut for the Whites just last month during the 1-0 loss to Wolves in the EFL Cup. The 19-year-old rose through the academy ranks of Spanish side Espanyol, but Leeds United poached him with a three-year contract in the summer.

He was initially brought in to feature in the Under-23s side but he clearly caught Marsch’s eye in training and was handed his professional debut.

If it wasn’t already clear just how much he’s valued by the club, Sun journalist Alan Nixon reports that Leeds are also tabling him a new contract offer worth £1million-a-week.

The young Spanish forward is clearly among Leeds’ prized gems along with other talented young guns Joe Gelhardt, Sam Greenwood, Wilfried Gnonto and Sonny Perkins.

The club have put a large focus on bringing in and developing youth, and the latest contract offer to Joseph demonstrates the club’s intent on keeping them at Elland Road.

But money alone won’t tempt them, Leeds have to offer first-team football – something Marsch has never been afraid of doing.

Gelhardt played a huge part in the club’s survival last season and continues to be in and around the first team. Gnonto has also been given his opportunity to shine this season, and Joseph seems to be the latest getting the Marsch treatment.

Whites fans can expect to see him in the matchday squads much more after his contract signature, as Leeds look to birth another new star in Yorkshire.
