Gabriel Gudmundsson injury update vs Brighton to leave Leeds with transfer dilemma
Gabriel Gudmundsson has filled the void at Leeds United better than most expected after Junior Firpo’s departure.
The Whites signed the Sweden international from LOSC Lille in the summer for around £10million, and he certainly has been worth the money.
Gudmundsson went off injured in the 44th minute against West Ham United on 24 October as the West Yorkshire outfit cruised to a 2-1 victory in the Premier League.
The left-back was replaced by James Justin, who put in a decent shift against the Hammers, but Daniel Farke’s team now travel to Brighton on 1 November, leaving the German manager with a dilemma.

James Justin set for frustration as Gabriel Gudmundsson fit for Brighton vs Leeds United
Gudmundsson’s knock against West Ham was nothing serious, and he will be available for the trip to the Amex Stadium, Farke shares.
The German manager has been impressed by the left-back’s career at Elland Road so far, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him start in East Sussex.
With the 26-year-old defender expected to be back to full fitness, Justin may once again have to settle for a position on the bench, which will surely be frustrating.
Speaking in the pre-match press conference on 30 October, Farke said: “Thankfully, it was just a bruise, nothing major. [Gudmundsson] will be back to full fitness and available. He’s been excellent so far, credit to his character, he always comes back stronger and delivers top performances.”
Justin was signed for 10m at Elland Road from Leicester City in the summer, but the versatile defender has only played 64 minutes for the West Yorkshire outfit so far.
For someone as established as the Englishman, the lack of game time will undoubtedly lead to questions about his future in LS11 ahead of the winter transfer window, and also raises concerns about the Peacocks’ recruitment strategy, as they spent a hefty sum on someone who hasn’t featured much this season.
What Daniel Farke said about James Justin transfer at Elland Road
Justin signed for Leeds towards the end of the transfer window, with competition expected for Jayden Bogle in the starting lineup.
However, the right-back has started in every Premier League game for the Whites, leaving the ex-Leicester star struggling for minutes.
| Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists | Minutes played |
| Premier League | 36 | 2 | 2 | 2921 |
Speaking to the media on 28 August, Farke did admit Justin would have a lot of competition in LS11, saying, “We had honest talks that it’s not easy for him because he has good competition, but this is what you need. He can play right back and left back. He can add goals and assists, and also defend. We are pretty pleased.”
While the defender was told things wouldn’t be easy in LS11, he still won’t be pleased about his situation.
