Erling Haaland has Leeds United in his heart after what he did for Man City in Champions League

Erling Haaland showcased that Leeds are still very much in his heart with his celebration for Man City.

Leeds United are gearing up to face Arsenal this weekend, and with the Gunners having been in Champions League action on Wednesday, the Whites will be somewhat optimistic about their chances.

Mikel Arteta’s side secured a 3-2 win over Kairat Almaty at the Emirates, though they weren’t the only Premier League side in action.

Man City were also looking to rescue their Champions League campaign at the Etihad, and courtesy of a goal from Haaland, they managed just that.

However, what the Norwegian striker did in his celebration is something that Leeds fans will love.

Erling Haaland silences Galatasary fans

Leeds’ rivalry with Galatasaray needs no explanation, and that was no doubt on Haaland’s mind as he took to the pitch against the Turkish club on Wednesday.

The Norwegian opened the scoring after just 11 minutes in typical Haaland fashion, with a tidy finish over the keeper after he latched onto a through ball by Jeremy Doku.

It was a big goal for Man City’s Champions League campaign, and Haaland wheeled away in celebration before doing what is often referred to as the Leeds salute in front of the travelling supporters.

Haaland has spoken about his love for Leeds in the past, and this was just another showcase of what the club means to him, even on the biggest of stages.

Haaland has already shown his respect for Leeds

It’s well-known by now, but Haaland was actually born in Leeds, hence his connection with the Elland Road outfit.

Unfortunately for the Whites, that has never been enough to convince him to join Leeds, with the Norwegian having already scored past them.

Man City secured a 3-1 win against Leeds back in 2022, and Haaland scored a brace.

However, his celebrations were muted out of respect for the club he loved as a child.

In an interview after the game, he said: “It was planned. I didn’t feel like cheering. I have respect for Leeds, where I was born.

“Not in my wildest dreams did I think I would play at Elland Road for City against Leeds. You can’t even dream about it, because it’s so surreal, with a father who has played for both clubs. I am proud today!”

While it may be unlikely, or perhaps nearly impossible, it would be quite the sight to see him emerge at Elland Road one day as a Leeds United player.
