Dominic Calvert-Lewin set for England call-up as he outdoes record at Leeds United

Thomas Tuchel will be delighted to have an in-form centre-forward in Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin at his disposal.

Crystal Palace were beaten 4-1 at Elland Road in the Premier League on 20 December, with the former Everton star scoring a brace.

There have been talks of Calvert-Lewin potentially making the 2026 World Cup squad after his red-hot form at the Whites this season.

The 28-year-old hasn’t played for the Three Lions since 2021, but he may be making a case for himself.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin goals per 90 at Leeds United impressive

Calvert-Lewin made his debut for England on 8 October 2020 against Wales in a friendly, scoring in the 3-0 victory.

The centre-forward received a call-up to the national side after a season in which he scored 0.45 goals per 90 minutes, with his average in the 2020-21 campaign at 0.5.

Since the Englishman’s move to Elland Road as a free agent in the summer, he has recorded 0.61 goals per 90, clearly outdoing his record when the Three Lions called him up.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Calvert-Lewin returning to the England setup, with Tuchel struggling for a striker who can back up Harry Kane.

Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins hasn’t been in the best of form, Ivan Toney doesn’t seem to be trusted after moving to Al-Ahli and Chelsea’s Liam Delap and Tottenham’s Dominic Solanke have struggled with injuries this season.

Daniel Farke to help Dominic Calvert-Lewin achieve ‘ultimate goal’

Calvert-Lewin is thriving under Daniel Farke’s new system, scoring in five consecutive Premier League games.

Leeds have opted for a 5-3-2 formation in recent weeks, which has arguably brought out the best in the England international.

Before the Palace game, the centre-forward admitted, “Of course, it’s the ultimate goal for any player to represent your country at a World Cup and it’s a World Cup year.”

The former Everton star will surely want to add to his 11 England caps, and it remains to be seen whether Tuchel will consider the attacker in LS11 as one of his options.
