Daniel Farke to utilise Leeds United cheat code to exploit biggest Man United weakness
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is expected to return to Leeds United’s starting lineup versus Manchester United.
Leeds will host Man United at Elland Road on Sunday in another important Premier League clash for Daniel Farke.
The German head coach is steering the Whites away from the relegation zone, and a result against Ruben Amorim’s side seems achievable.
Calvert-Lewin was dropped in Leeds’ impressive 0-0 draw to Liverpool last time out in the league, with Farke hesitant to overuse his key man.
However, the Englishman is now rested and primed for a massive performance with a favourable matchup in front of the striker.
Lisandro Martinez won’t be able to stop Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Calvert-Lewin was on a goalscoring rampage before he was benched against Liverpool.
The 28-year-old had scored seven times in six matches before then, as the forward will be relishing the opportunity to play Man United for one main reason.
Lisandro Martinez is likely to start at Elland Road for Man United, with the 5,9″ tall defender set to play his worst possible opponent in Calvert-Lewin.
- Calvert-Lewin has won 49 aerial duels already this season
- All of his eight goals have come from inside the box
- Calvert-Lewin usually gets chances and averages 2.69 shots per game
The Leeds number nine has shown a dominance in aerial duels with his 6,1″ frame, and often scores by getting on the end of crosses.
Martinez will be pretty helpless in the air, while Farke needs to deploy his wing-backs to get balls into the box and onto Calvert-Lewin’s head.
Martinez has started in each of the Red Devils’ previous games since he returned from injury, but may have to wait for a return to form with Calvert-Lewin bound to haunt the Argentine.
Leeds can achieve first over Manchester United since 2002
Amorim will be without Bruno Fernandes for the clash, with Bryan Mbuemo also unavailable for the Red Devils.
There’s no doubt that the Whites have more of a feel-good factor around LS11 than their opponents do, given recent results.
Leeds have not beaten Man United at Elland Road in the top flight since September 2002, when Harry Kewell’s second-half winner did the trick for the Whites.
Calvert-Lewin’s presence, partnered with the voice of the Elland Road faithful backing Farke’s men, should see Leeds pull off the biggest upset of the weekend.
