Daniel Farke contradicts himself with Archie Gray decision in Leeds United win v Norwich City

Leeds United moved to third in the Championship table with a dramatic 3-2 win against Norwich City on Saturday (21 October).

The visitors went 2-0 down on Daniel Farke’s return to Carrow Road, with Shane Duffy and Gabriel Sara scoring first-half goals.

But Leeds didn’t give up, with Duffy scoring an own goal and Crysencio Summerville netting twice to secure a stunning win. It was a tough test for both clubs, in what was their first game back after the recent international break.

Fatigue certainly played its part, with the likes of Joe Rodon, Glen Kamar and Ethan Ampadu all starting for the Whites having played for their respective countries.

Another Leeds ace that was handed a start by Farke was youngster Archie Gray, who remarkably played the entire 90 minutes at Carrow Road.

That came despite his manager being unhappy at the youngster playing every minute for England Under-19s in the recent international break.

Despite having veteran defender Luke Ayling available, Farke chose to start the 17-year-old at right-back. Gray has now played all 12 of his club’s league matches this season, as well as playing in both of their EFL Cup matches.

The teenager is more than likely set to suffer the consequences of so much football in such a short space of time at some point this season, but Farke ignored the opportunity to give him a rest against the Canaries.

The contradictory decision may have surprised many, not least the very experienced Ayling, who only appeared as a 90th-minute substitute for Joel Piroe.

In other Leeds United news, one Whites ace has sent a six-word message to a Liverpool star after injury news emerged at the Premier League club.
