Cagliari president confirms that Leeds have not made a bid for Nahitan Nandez

Leeds United have been almost relentlessly linked with a move for Uruguayan midfielder Nahitan Nandez this summer.

However, judging by the latest comments from the Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini they are nowhere near close to signing the 25-year-old as he confirmed that there has been “no offer” for Nandez [calciocasteddu].

This is in direct contrast to various Italian reports, which have suggested that Nandez’s potential move to Elland Road would be pretty much resolved in the coming days [La Nuova Sardegna].

However, how can that be true when the president of Cagliari has confirmed that his club have not received any offers for Nandez.

This saga is starting to feel an awful lot like the Rodrigo De Paul situation from last summer as the Whites were relentlessly linked with a move for the Argentinian. However, it was then revealed that they weren’t actually that close to signing him at any point [the Phil Hay Show].

So, could Nandez be a similar situation?

Well, it is certainly starting to feel that way, especially because the Yorkshire Evening Post have dismissed the 25-year-old as a target for the Whites this summer.

These comments from Giulini also spell it out in black and white that Leeds or any other club have made an offer for Nandez.

It must be remembered that the Uruguayan has a 36million Euro release clause [£30.68million], which would smash Leeds’ current transfer record.

Do they really need to spend all that money on a central midfield player, or could they use those funds to strengthen multiple areas of the squad?

It remains to be seen if Leeds do decide to make an offer for Nandez, but as things stand, he won’t be moving to Elland Road, and he might not even be a target.

So be careful Leeds fans; this one could quite easily turn out to be another De Paul chase.
